Who are We?
We are a group of PhD students at Carnegie Mellon University
Guzide Atasoy

Guzide Atasoy is a PhD student at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of Carnegie Mellon University. She is in the Advanced Infrastructure Systems program and interested in the monitoring and control of the projects. This is her first semester so her research topic has not been finalized yet.
Ian Li

Ian Li is a PhD student at the Human Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. He researches technologies that increase people’s awareness of their own behavior and habits to help them make better decisions and find opportunities for positive changes in their lives. He is currently developing a physical monitoring system that shows people which of their activities contributes most to their physical health. The research will contribute to knowledge about technological and interaction issues with monitoring the self and the effect of such technologies to people’s behavior.
Ido Roll

Ido Roll is a PhD student at the Human Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University and the Pittsburgh Science of Learning Center. His current research evaluates whether asking students to invent solutions to novel problems can improve learning from subsequent instruction. Ido sees educational technologies as the main instrument to bridge social gaps and promote more just, fulfilled, and peaceful society.
Erin Walker

Erin Walker is a PhD student at the Human Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. She works on integrating peer tutoring into an existing intelligent tutoring system (ITS). In her system, instead of the computer tutoring the student on Algebra, students tutor each other, and the computer provides cognitive and collaborative support. Adding collaborative learning to an ITS retains the benefits of the ITS, while adding greater potential for robust learning through deep student interaction. The ITS can in turn facilitate the collaborative learning by structuring and tutoring the collaboration to ensure that beneficial interaction occurs.
